Review of the 2024 Northwest Pacific Typhoon season (September to December)
(Follow the preceding blog)
3、Typhoon Yagi
As a typhoon almost native to the South China Sea, thanks to high SST and bottom wind shear, it rapidly grew into the third super typhoon in 2024, and made landfall in China's Hainan Province with near peak intensity, becoming one of the strongest typhoons to make landfall in China since the 9th typhoon "Rammasun" in 2014. It then moved into the Gulf of Tonkin and the Gulf of Thailand, and made landfall again along the coasts of Vietnam and India, causing extensive rainfall.
4、“Shanghai double strike”

I have a detailed blog about Typhoon Bebinca in this website. Check out the blog for more details. These two typhoons landed in Shanghai one after another and broke the barrier of Shanghai (Only 12 typhoons have made landfall in Shanghai since 1949). This is very rare in history.
5、Four typhoons Dancing Together in November

In November, an unusually strong subtropical - high led to a September - like circulation, with the intertropical convergence zone spawning steady typhoons. On November 4, Typhoon Ginkgo formed east of the Philippines, becoming the year's sixth super - typhoon and the second late - season one. On November 9, Typhoons Taochi and Manyi formed, joining Ginkgo as the first three November typhoons since 1994. Ginkgo became a super - typhoon again in the South China Sea on November 9. On November 12, Typhoon Usagi formed, creating the first "November 4 typhoon" situation. Taochi, Usagi, and Manyi then moved westward towards the Philippines and hit it successively. Taochi, initially expected to weaken, instead developed into the year's eighth super - typhoon, a category 17+ super - typhoon recognized by the National Meteorological Center on November 16, landed in the Philippines, and finally weakened and dissipated in the northern South China Sea on November 19.
