The early morning of September 16, was destined to be an extraordinary morning. Sometimes outside of the window was quiet, and on the other time there was the rustling of leaves as the wind blew through. I was excited too, because it was a good opporturnity for me to observe the typhoon in-plant.

Typhoon Bebinca was very close to Shanghai. CMA forecasted that it will landed in 12 hours.

Typhoon Bebinca is the 13th named storm of the 2024 Pacific Typhoon season. "Bebinca" is a name provided by Macau, China, which means a milk pudding that is very popular among the locals.

Name: Bebinca

English name:Severe Typhoon Bebinca

International code:2413

JTWC:14W

Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration: Ferdie

Starting date: September 10, 2024

Discontinued date: 18 September 2024

Strength:Severe typhoon(Force 14,45m/s,955hpa)(CMA)

Bebinca was starting from a normal tropical disturbance in North West

Pacific Ocean. Due to the impact of strong vertical wind shear, Typhoon Bebinca's early development was hindered, and its intensity remained severe tropical storm(Force 10)until September 14, when it entered the Kuroshio warm current area.

On the afternoon of September 15, Typhoon Bebinca shifted to the west-northwest, but continued to strengthen, and satellite imagery showed a clear upper-level eye opening.

On September 16, Bebika reached severe typhoon status and made landfall in Shanghai's Pudong New Area at 7:30 am.

I waked up at 8 o'clock. The rain was falling heavily and wind was blowing strongly. I quickly took the measuring tool and went outside to measure the data. I tried for several places and finally decided to choose the open space in front of the door. I stood in the rain for nearly 30 minutes with anemometer in hands. I could clearly feel the rain beating hard on me. Finally, I got the maximum wind speed of 21m/s.

At 12 o'clock, Typhoon Bebinca moved out of Shanghai, and its impact on the city was also coming to an end. I concluded from my first wind chasing experience and got that:

1、It is important to find a suitable place, which can measure the maximum wind speed;

2、When the wind suddenly stopped, don't get outside immediately because maybe you are in the eye of the typhoon.
